Room by Room ~ Kitchen Day 2

Appliances Just a warning this could spill over into day 3!  Think how many appliances you own...

• Dishwasher
• Microwave
• Blender
• Chop Chop
• Toaster Oven
• Electric Can Opener
• Coffee Maker

The Dishwasher should be relativly easy right? I mean it cleans the dishes all of the time... Think again, when I began reading I could not believe how dirty this appliance could be..  Yes my dishwasher came with our house when we bought it and probobly came with the house when it was built 30 years ago! It does the job.. Ill get a new one someday, In my dreams!  Follow these instuctions and it will be sparkling!!

Load it and run it... (move on to cleaning your microwave)

~ To clean your Microwave..
Remove the glass tray, put in the sink.. Get a microwavable bowl fill with a few teaspoons of lemon juice or a squeesed fresh lemon and microwave for 5-10 minutes (move onto the coffemaker)... THIS WILL BE EXTREMLY HOT.. Remove and wipe with a papertowel.  Wipe the outside of microwave and under neath it!

~ To clean your Coffee Maker
Make a mixture of 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts water-- enough to fill the pot. For a stronger solution (which might be necessary if this is the first time you've cleaned your coffee maker since you got it three years ago) make a mixture that is half vinegar and half water instead. Put a coffee filter in and Run it as usuall. Wait 15 minutes, Dump mixture out, rinse and fill with cool water and run it again.

Seriously ~ Dont stand there watching these things.. KEEP MOVING!! Save your self some time and plan ahead where there will be down time.. and add things accordingly!

Back to the Dishwasher...

When Cycle is over, Empty it, remove bottom rack and check for little things that have fallen through!

It doesnt look to dirty does it?? Just wait

Get your tweaser's and grab those little particles in the sprayer holes.. Of course how efficant can the dishwasher be if water cant come through?  I have never even noticed these before!!

Wait till you see what I found...

Plastic lables, and food particles, EWWW are you grossed out... Ha this is nothing!!

Remove the door seal, and see what you find... underneath my seal was the most disgusting thing i have found in a long time.. and yes i do have 2 kids and 3 dogs so quite frequently im intruduced to new things..

Removed all nastyness... Scrubbed until I could scrub no more, 2 toothbrushes, wirebrush and a scrub brush later... Then i prompty dumped as much comet as I could into the dishwasher and scrubbed all of the walls and ran the dishwasher again...

This was not the best idea..

Moving on...

Check the basket for objects too... There is the other peice of that glass!!!

Wash this in your sink!

Looking better!!!

In come the bad boys....

Add some to your soap dispencer...throw your dirty tools on there and run her again!!!

Still more coming out!!

Dont forget to add some Jet Dry Rinse Aid!

My arsenol !!

Ya better get on this one too !! GROSS..

Grab your Blender, and Chop Chop, Coffee Maker Craf and Glass Tray from Microwave and remove all parts and run them through your freshly CLEANED and Disinfected DISHWASHER!!

Wipe all exterior surfaces.. Dry.. Replace.. and Put them back where they go!

Dont forget your toaster

Unplug it, remove the tray dump all crumbs, wash bottom tray, and wipe all surfaces

This was a 2 Hour ordeal for me... With Kiddos awake, you might be lucky and have a helper??? Doubt it.. If not, save some for tomorrow, its a light day!! GOOD LUCK!!

Price of Newspaper Insert Coupons

I'm sitting here thinking... I wonder how much I pay for these coupons?.. Do you not purchase them because you have to pay for them?  Why should we pay to get a discount on our products.?. This weekend I purchased 10 newspapers containing 222 manufacture coupons each paper, that is 2220 coupons I could possibly use.. (WIERD FACT!)

Anyway ~ the price of each coupon is 0.007 yes thats a 7th of a penny..

Are you kidding, ask yourself now should i buy those papers...

WOULD I PAY THAT TO GET A FREE BOTTLE OF OLAY BODY WASH.. or FREE Groceries..

 Yes, Shouldnt You?

Coffee prices on the rise

A few months ago I read an article by Glenn Beck on food price inflation, it was stated that people shorty wont worry about paying mortgages any more it will be buying food. If you are like me your left over cash after your monthly bills is certainly not dispensable. It stated grains, corn, coffee and cotton would soon be almost unobtainable for some income levels.. How do you feel about wheat bread being $26 a loaf??? Relax I was told by everyone I tried to discuss this with. It is just talk.. I'm afraid not.

What was the heading of my newspaper today?

So I turn to D1 and my stomach churns.. I need coffee to sustain my everyday functioning.. Bet you do too!  Well its going up 10c a cup at some retailers, here is the break down, if you grab 1 cup a day at WaWa you pay $365 a year.. For someone making $10 an hour that is 36.5 hours of work.. But...That will soon be $401.50... What does that mean for coffee at home? We will have to wait to see how much our brands for this Hot Commodity push the increase on us too..

Kitchen Day 1 Instructions

Here is tomorrow's (Monday's) Game Plan...

Grab yourself a drink, a pen, a notepad, and a big trash bag, bucket, rag, Lysol and a chair..
Now open your Refrigerator... Is is organized? Spotless or would you die from embarrassment if someone looked in it? OMG how old is that Salad Dressing... jan 09?  OHH NO!

No this isn't my fridge :)

Go through everything in your fridge, Check the dates, if they are old, or questionable throw them out! Anything that is good gets wiped off and put back in for now. Onto your freezer same scenario.

WHY????

Not to much Trash :)

Put your chair in the middle of your kitchen, grab that drink, pen and notepad and SIT down !
Write down any food that you noticed you are out of or needed to be replaced.
Anything you think you might need after we are through this, new pot holders, curtains, dish rags..
Hmmm.. Paint??

This is how I take my shopping lists to the store, I like to hand write things still, Love my iphone, I can take a picture of it :) no need to type it into a notepad on the phone! Yes I know I spelled things wrong. That is the downside.. no spell check!

Think your done??? Nope, Next fill that bucket with warm water and cleaner,  grab your rag and stand on that chair and clean your ceiling fan, replace any light bulbs that are out.

That's it for day 1..........Did you find something to make for dinner?? Or is it a buffet of left overs?  Want to get ready for tomorrow?  You will need a cooler, Baking Soda, Rag, Old Toothbrush, Your vacuum and alcohol (rubbing that is)!
How do I have these pictures up? I'm one step ahead of my posts, making sure things work out, times are ok, and cleaners I post are effective!

Room by Room Series

Starting tomorrow I am going through my kitchen... I have it all planned out for an hour or less each day for 1 week.. Everything will be cleaned and de-cluttered by next week my kitchen will be spotless!!  Are you going to clean with me?  I am planning on posting detailed instructions on how to clean everything!  If you are joining me.. and are brave enough.. post your pictures on my face book page or email them to me at centsablesecrets@aol.com and I will post them for you!  For my US readers...I have 2 $5 gift cards to give away for your participation.. Look for my stories and pictures starting Monday morning!!

There is just one thing we need to do to get a jump start on tomorrow....

Get under the sink and organize this cabinet..

For this week you will need..

Toothbrush

Baking Soda

Lemon Juice

Room by Room

How is your New Years Resolution going?  Mine is moving right along! On January 1st I announced on mine.. "My new years resolution is to follow the schedules I make for myself! Clear my mind, my family and my house of all of the things that don't need to be there. And start doing the things that make me happy, Ive seemed to have lost them and i want them back. Have a happy and safe new years eve!"
We all know if it makes Face book its official...

1st off I put my iPhone to use, I downloaded intuition.. which has to be the best app I have seen, It has organized my cleaning schedule, errands by location, doctor appointments, bills that are due, and shopping lists or notes I need to make.  It reminds me by a text everyday at 9am to do a 15minute pick up of my house!! or on a Tuesday I need to clean my 1/2 bath even to bring my trash cans up from the alley!

2nd... It has been a month of organizing this house.. It is going to take longer than I thought!!  I have been rearranging rooms, closets, drawers.. anything to make my life more efficient!  CLEARING THE CLUTTER! I give it one hour a day, if I'm lucky.. Now I can say that every room has been organized, it is time to clean it.. I mean seriously clean it, and again re-evaluate my clutter that is remaining. (How can 1 person have 5 Chinese food menus from the same place, (altho the name has changed 3 times!) Here is another serious question, Do you have your phone book taking up a drawer?  Why, you can Google any number you need.. DONT WASTE THAT DRAWER! Even most take out menus can be viewed online! Get rid of them!  How many spatulas do you have? I had at least 8.. now I have 4, I only need 1... Now I am going to take this Room by room and go thru what I have left.. So look for posts starting Monday and clean with me.. Room by Room .. 7 days of cleaning in just one room, an hour or less a day..

Can you guess what room I'm starting in?... THE KITCHEN...

Here is an example what (3) of my Junk Drawers in my kitchen looked like this morning...

And After.....

We are all expecting tax returns shortly... A portion of mine will be spent on organizational tools, bins, accessories.  Most will be purchased used at our local thrift store.. I will show you what I find!  Now onto Martha's website for me to start researching what is necessary for a kitchen clean up!  Be ready Monday!!
